DIGIMON CODE Well, as you'll remember, Digimon Code has been in the works since that fateful day, January 15th 2009. We eventually settled on a comic format (and yes, that means left-to-right), and work went on at an excellent pace (THANKS TO ANTHY, ANTHY, ANTHY, AND ALSO, ANTHY), and, well...the first chapter is out now! You can check out the incredible, high quality AJAX online viewing I put together here (by Monday maybe that won't be a joke) and you can download the convenient ZIP file here! Enjoy and discuss and tell your friends! Although releases will always be posted on DDF, you might also want to check out the Digimon Code blog for cool BEHIND THE SCENES ACTION. And as a side-note, please don't rehost Digimon Code anywhere unless you're TKTakeru or me or Anthy. It'd be really nice if you also linked to this thread instead of posting direct links to the downloads. Thank you! God of War Lu Bu, of all the heroes, who is more fearless than you on the battlefield, and who more unafraid of death? And of all the heroes, who dares trample on their pride like you have? They don't understand one simple logic - what good is reputation if you are dead? You truly are the pinnacle of both brains and brawn.

Well after showing it to a friend, I've got the first critique.
From Icedevimon on WtW
From what I understand, you all had wanted this comic to be a throw back to the original series, Digimon Adventure. That is all fine and well, it makes sense to want to pay homage to the original series, but to me, it almost seeems like a carbon copy.
The story takes place in Japan, the characters all have similiarites to characters from the two Digimon Adventure seasons, and all the names are Japanese. To me, the comic would have been much more effective if it had actually taken place in an English speaking country and the characters had English names. Right now, the names are hard to remember and are rather unappealing.
The boy on the left looks like Takeru. The one beside him looks like Yamato. The girl next to him looks like Mimi and one of the young girl characters combined. Her sister looks like a mix of Hikari and Mimi, and the final boy is obviously reeking of Taichi and Daisuke, though his is my favorite design of them all.
I particularly take offense to the design of the girls. They are the epitome of stereotypes. They both have pink hair, which first of all is unnatural in humans, and they both wear pink and purple clothing, which are 'girl' colors. Both have short skirts or shorts. They both have adopted a submissive stance, and both hold themselves in ways that show uncertainty--the young girl with her hands in front of her and the other with her hands behind her. Both also wear bands of some sort in their hair, which are generally not worn by men.
As for the story, and I know there seems to be meaning behind it, but the way the death of the kid in the beginning wasn't handled very well. It just seems random and out of place, as if the death is made a mockery of. It's not a good way to start the story.
Not all of your characers are getting equal time in the comic, which is imperative for a first issue. The little girl has almost no time, and the boy in green could have used more focus as well. The little girl came off as a know-it-all brat to me, so I didn't mind, but in all fairness, the first issue shouldn't favor one character over another. The characters don't seem to have much personality as a result.
So.
Things I don't like. . . .
--It's set in Japan. I don't see a point in doing this. You should have made this your own by choosing a country that you are more familiar with. --All the names are Japanese. See above. --The female character designs are cliche and come off as stereotypes. --Beginning of comic didn't fit in with the rest of it at all, and the death was made a mockery of. --There were typos in your first issue. A '...' was left out on page 12. --The little girl speaks rather advanced for such a young child. She also seems too smart for her age. --Yuusuke was named and created for comic relief. That's 'not' a good reason to make a character or name him a certain way. . . .
Some things I did like. . . .
--The sibling characters are female and not lead characters. This breaks away from tradition. --The art style is excellent, and it totally feels like digimon. --You managed to give the goggle-boy a personality that isn't beligerant. --The arrival of the digivices were innovative.
Overall, it's okay. There are a lot of issues going against it for me. The characters don't stand out to me yet. I don't feel for them, and that's really important in a series like Digimon, which is so character driven. I need a reason to care for these people, and right now I'm just not feeling it.

Time: Being on the web and being in comic form, I ended up assuming a page-every-[timeperiod] distribution instead of a whole chapter at once.
Oddly, at the same time, I was not expecting anything this soon, either. I set unusually low standards for online fan projects that are announced rather than just done.
Troll'd: Short version: The first critical response (critical, not negative), and my mind immediately jumped to defend it.
Long version: Will have to wait until I'm off work. (Though, I won't say off which shift. =P )

Digivices coming out of toaster = Best thing I've ever seen in my life.
"That's not toast..." Indeed.
If I had to crit, I would say that the art seems detached from the dialog at times. I.E. page 4 where Tadashi is shouting, but the picture of him doesn't show his mouth at all, which makes it hard to mentally connect the shouted dialog to the close-up-on-eyes image.
Secondly, all of the characters have yet to really differentiate themselves from their genre archetypes. We have a goggleboy, a girly girl, the insecure youngster, the lone wolf and the mysterious kid. Sadly, none of these characters really differentiate themselves so much that at this point most of them seem like knockoffs of more developed characters. Still, theres plenty of time to turn that around...
Lastly, no Digimon... I know its the first chapter and all, but at least give us a silhouette at the end or something to remind us that we're reading a Digimon comic and not a teen drama with Digivices.
I don't mean to sound critical out of hate, I'd love to see this really grow into a wonderful story. Its really what we dedicated fans need right now in this slow period for digimon stuff.

Looks great so far.
Toaster = Best way to get Digivices ever.
First review sucks. It is way to early to judge it like that. So what? Then it is set in Japan. And oh my God the Characters have japanese names and not some unfitting english names or stupid nicknames! And the Girls ( which are siters ) both have the same hair color! Seriously, that guy needs to chill. Get it? IceDevimon? Chill?
I say that a girl can be as girly as she wants as long as she still gets her job done!
