Now don't shoot me, but what if Ranamon was purified and was chosen to be the legendary Warrior of Water?

There's no indication that Cherubimon corrupted the other spirits like he corrupted the Spirits of Darkness. Maybe he did, but there's nothing official about it. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

The spirits of Earth, Water, Wood and Steel were not corrupted like the spirits of Darkness. In the later episodes during the Royal Knights arc, the evil hybrids still retained the same forms they had before being defeated and purified by the Chosen Children. That means Ranamon is the true warrior of water. Same goes for Mercuremon, Arbormon and Grottomon and their elements.
